Minneriya National Park is famous for hosting “The Gathering”, one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles, in which hundreds of Asian elephants congregate around the Minneriya reservoir during the dry season to feed on the lush grasses revealed by receding water levels. The park also supports leopards, sambar deer, and a diversity of waterbirds and raptors, making it a paradise for both wildlife and bird photographers.
